The FoundationThe Committee for Civic Initiative originated during the three-month civic protests of 1996/1997 brought on by the electoral fraud at local elections in 1996. Its original aim was to preserve at least part of citizens’ energy and enthusiasm and to contribute to the rise of civic consciousness.

CCI TodayToday, eight years later, the CCI has 27 active members, out of whom 19 are professors and assistants from the University of Nis (sociologists, psychologists, philosophers, linguists and political scientists) and more than 300 volunteers in the region of south and east Serbia. The main stream of the CCI's activities is education for democracy, i.e. the education of citizens for active participation in a democratic, multicultural, pluralist society.
